Visualizing Information
This is an updated version of an undergrad assignment I completed in 1997, a timeline on the topic of our choosing. At that time, I was intensely fascinated by Mt. Everest – sparked by the Frontline PBS film Storm Over Everest, produced by David Breashears. This led to Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air which led to reading and watching anything else on the topic, old and new.
This is the culmination of my own research as of 1997. Following Everest expeditions was a vicarious experience. At the age of 25, with responsibilities and mega-modest finances, I imagined I would never climb anything beyond a tree. It’s been mostly just a bunch of stairs since then. Not a huge fan of stairs, but I digress.
No doubt the averages, data, and fatality statistics have changed since then, but here you have it. I still enjoy designing information.
